Introduction
Dengue is a mosquito (Aedes aegyptii) transmitted viral disease. Aedes aegyptii also called as tiger mosquitoes due to stripes
Signs and Symptoms
The symptoms of dengue are fever with chills. There may be headache, eye pain, muscle pain, pain in back, joint pain usually of the knees and shoulders. It may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting, weakness, abnormal taste, loss of appetite and sore throat.
Dengue haemorrhagic fever
Some diseases lead to DHF(Dengue haemorrhagic fever) which may lead to increased vascular permeability and shock
. There is minor or major bleeding or leakage of plasma. It presents as gastrointestinal bleeding and abdominal, pain. Many cases of DHF may be fatal. It is related to different serotypes. Infection with a serotype may provide protection to that serotype only. Dengue shock syndrome occurs due to increased capillary permeability leading to hypovolemia and accompanied by decreased blood pressure and signs of circulatory shock malaise , vomiting, stomachache and should be admitted in hospital.
Preventing covid-19
Avoid mosquito bites, including the use of appropriate mosquito repellants. Dengue is spread by aedes mosquito. Aedes mosquito bite during day time. Do not let water get collected in spaces as aedes mosquito lay their eggs in still water.
Cure
For mild cases, the treatment is supportive. ORS (oral rehydration solution) and fruit juices. Intravenous fluid if dehydration. Paracetamol if fever. The patient should be preferably under the observation of physician.
