Introduction
Holiday heart syndrome is also called as alcohol induced atrial arrhythmias. It is characterized by abnormal heart rhythm and related to excessive alcohol drinking and can be seen in a person with no clinical history of heart disease.
Cause
Heavy ethanol drinks accompanied by increased stress and dehydration.
Symptoms
History of excess alcohol consumption associated with pounding heart.
Prevention
Stop alcohol or decrease amount of consumption. Include less salt in diet. Patient can join Alcoholic Anonymous and other groups if required. Prevent dehydration by drinking adequate mineral water. Avoid or decrease consumption of tobacco, tea and coffee. Don’t take stress.
